Log Mail Notification – See, Understand, Act on Events
Log Mail Notification automatically monitors log events on Windows and sends an email as soon as something important happens. This makes security alerts, service errors, or successful maintenance actions immediately visible – without manually checking the Event Viewer.
How LMN Works
- Monitoring: LMN reads defined Windows logs (e.g., security and system logs) at specified intervals.
- Detection: Relevant events are filtered (e.g., by event ID, level, source).
- Notification: LMN generates a clear email with all details (timestamp, computer, domain, provider, event ID, and plain-text message).
- Security & Licensing: License verification and activation run reliably in the background to ensure the service operates securely and compliantly.
Useful Logs – Transparency for Operations
LMN documents its behavior so administrators can maintain full oversight at any time:
- Service Logs: Service start/stop, applied configuration, status messages.
- License & Activation Logs: Notices about successful verification/activation or clear error messages (including event IDs).
- Update Logs: Information about available updates and their application.
The logs are stored in the Windows Event Log (log name: “Log Mail Notification”) and additionally in the folder %ProgramData%\LMN\logs (e.g., service.log, service_stacktrace.log, update.worker.log). For evaluation, events can easily be exported as CSV/JSON via PowerShell.
